MAKE POVERTY HISTORY There is still time to add your name.
Africa is the second largest continent in the world. It provides a home for 1 in 10 people in the world. 15% of America's oil comes from Africa, and other resources such as chocolate, rice, coffee and peanuts.
1 in 2 people in Africa are under the age of 20 and their futures are at risk. Africa is under Triple Crisis which keeps people poor and the nation weak. DEBT -- Africa is suffering from the burden of unpayable debt, the money they borrowed so children could have an education and they could have an etiquette health system. There is also the epidemic of AIDS which is taking the lives of a WHOLE generation. Not to mention the unfair TRADE POLICIES placed upon Africa. These policies keep Africans from selling their products at WORLD prices, does that mean Africa isn't part of the world?, thus in turn they cannot EARN their way out of poverty.
Africa also houses the POOREST part of the world, Sub-Saharan Africa (The part of africa south of the sahara desert). 70% of it's inhabitants live on 2 DOLLARS a day, 200 MILLION go hungry everyday. In this year alone at least 1 MILLION Africans (most of them young children) will die from maleria and 2 MILLION will die from AIDS.
Every single day 30,000 children die, needlessly, of extreme poverty. On July 6th, we have the chance to change this horrible statistic. 8 world leaders are meeting in Scotland for the G8 summit. They will be shown a workable plan to double aid, drop the debt, and make the trade laws fair. If ALL of them agree we will be the generation who made poverty history. However, they will only agree if enough people tell them to.
